Which is why the owners of this spacious Victorian house in Colchester, Essex, asked Jamie Blake of the design and renovation company Blakes London, to create a room that was a little out of the ordinary. The owner sourced copper lights US. "They accent lighting rather than the task," said Jamie, 'and create large pools of soft light on the work surface of the island. The kitchen units were custom made using 22mm MDF with oak veneer, sprayed with matte paint. "The owner did not want a matte finish hard," says Jamie. "With this, you can see the wood grain, which adds subtle character.

small shelves on each side of the Aga are more decorative than practical, and provide a space for the owner to display a vintage porcelain collection. Small details play their part in the success of any space. For example, the sockets are copper color to match the lighting, backsplash and island.
