Kitchen of the week: a classic design that will stand the test of time - When marketing consultant Charlotte and her family moved from London to Hertfordshire, she did not seek a renewal project but in 1920 a sprawling house in Hertford proved too tempting to resist. As recalled kitchen designer Jeremy Friendship, "When I entered the door, he was stripped back to basics and certainly needs a massive overhaul.

Charlotte contacted Jeremy after a recommendation from a friend and gave him the simplest of briefs: to maximize the use of space in the new extension and create a kitchen that blend in easily with the rest of the house. Charlotte wanted a kitchen that will stand the test of time and not look out of place as you move into the older parts of the house, "says Jeremy.

The result is a calming system in a palette of soft white and gray coupé, with ample space to accommodate a growing family. "It's very well the heart of the home," Jeremy said. "And it is perfectly balanced between contemporary and traditional, so it will never date.
