Food Tour: A quiet extension for a young family Busy - Previously tired, cramped and lack of light, south-east London kitchen was given a renovation of five months and restructure which included new skylights and opening on the rear wall of the garden with folding doors mounting. "Part of making it work better kitchen cabinets were using the island for storage," says Dadswell. "We also added a cooler wine, built in additional storage under the seating area and next to him, and designed a large bank of cabinets that carefully hide the refrigerator, ovens and mops. "

"the owners had already chosen a local food supplier and a firm of builders who specialize in hand-back extensions," says Dadswell. "So my job was to link these disparate elements and do the work space for them.

The design main principle was to keep the room feeling as light and quiet as possible because the owners lead busy lives. They wanted to be able to enjoy every minute of their free time with the children, to get the layout and design of the space law was paramount.
"The owners do not want anything too bright or white, which I was thrilled," says Dadswell. "They wanted to incorporate some wood, so we chose a smoked oak, and they were both very keen on the blue. "

"I suggested building a closet on the end of the show," says Dadswell. "From experience, I know it is useful to have somewhere the kids crayons, coloring books and games can be stored when the cleared table for dinner. It is also a place to display personal items and a place to put a lamp. "

Dadswell and customers thought long and hard about the style and design of backsplash tiles, as they wanted them to add a softness to the room rather than a clinical edge .
"We chose these tiles because they have imperfect surface reflecting light," says the designer. "We had placed them in a midcentury graphic style. We also used a very light gray grout, non-yellowing, and used it on the floor tiles, too.

"This project has exceeded my expectations," says Dadswell. "He has a beautiful light and airy in the day, and the three different lighting circuits means that it feels very comfortable evening too."
